The Office of Diversity and Inclusion has a unique group of individuals dedicated to ensuring that students of all backgrounds have the resources available to be successful at the university setting and beyond. Together, ODI staff works to enhance each student’s college experience by providing programs to help meet the social, cultural, and educational needs of currently enrolled minority students. Their efforts positively influence the matriculation and graduation rates of these students.

Our Staff

Symone Irving

Office Assistant

Symone Irving is from St. Louis, Missouri. She is currently majoring in exercise science with a minor in psychology. Her goal is to become a reliable team physician for athletes. Symone enjoys cooking, playing with her bulldog, binge watching good series, and experiments. Symone plans to graduate with her bachelor degree in Spring 2024. She is involved in Black Affairs Council and enjoys finding new opportunities to help on campus or gain information from it. Besides working in ODI, she also works at Rainbow's End, which is therapeutic for her because she loves children. She hopes to someday play a role in the world which makes a positive impact and then she will gladly say, "I am SIU Saluki Alumni".


Michael Pennick

Office Assistant

Michael Pennick is from the south suburbs of Chicago. He is majoring in finance, with a specialization in financial management, and is expected to graduate in May of 2024. He plans to pursue his master's degree in finance or business management as well. He enjoys going on road trips and spending time with friends and family. He plans to one day create a real estate business in several states across the east and west coasts.


Christopher Rouse II

Office Assistant

Christopher Rouse II is from the south suburbs of Chicago. Christopher is in his senior year, majoring in marketing. Upon graduation, Christopher hopes to take his understanding of marketing and use it in the world of sports, with a focus of providing help to businesses in his community which are trying to expand their brand and mission. In his free time, you can find Christopher either playing sports or reading.


London White

Office Assistant

London White is a senior at SIU. She is a marketing major from the west side of Chicago (the BEST side) and very involved on campus. She is a member of the Black Affairs Council, Undergraduate Student Government, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. (the last created and best designed D9 sorority)! She plans to further her education and receive her MBA and Juris Doctorate Dual degree post-undergrad and pursue multiple career goals throughout her lifetime. She would like to become an NBA sports agent and use her success to fuel her humanitarian efforts through entrepreneurship. Opening her own health clinic in the heart of Chicago’s west side and running for local government are all future dreams of hers, as they allow her to give back to the community that made her who she is today. Overall, she sees herself becoming a philanthropist and inspiration to the next generation. One thing she hopes to share with everyone is to "Remember to try to remain positive despite it all, and be GREATER than the day before!"
